What is private data?
Private data is information about you that could identify you as an individual. WSNZ does not need your sensitive data and you shouldn’t give us sensitive data (sensitive data is data that could be used to discriminate or harass you e.g. racial origin or religious beliefs).
What types of private data do we collect through our websites and online channels?
In visiting our websites we automatically log your IP address, operating system type, browser type, referring website, pages you view on our website, the dates/times you visit our website, and what links you click on our website. This information doesn’t identify you has an individual however, but as a visitor to our websites.
- If you choose to sign up to the WSNZ newsletter, we collect your name and email address.
- If you contact us through a form, we collect your name, organisation details and email address.
- If you login as a member to our websites, we collect your name, organisation details and email address.
You may communicate with us via our online channels such as through Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn etc by leaving a comment/asking a question/rating a picture and we may need to collect your username.
How do we collect private data? Where do we store it?
Your name and email may be kept in a CRM (Customer Relations Management system) which also indicates preferences such as what type of newsletters/information we send you. If we communicate with you regularly, we may ask for your organisation name and other contact details such as a phone number and mailing address. These are also kept under your profile in the CRM.
If you make a funding application to us, we keep your funding application information in the CRM and on the WSNZ hosted server.
We collect cookies. Cookies are small data files stored on your browser. These help the websites to remember things and record your browsing activity.
How do we use private data? Why do we keep it?
We do not spam you and only intend to send you communications that are relevant to what you have requested in terms of signing up for a newsletter, making a social media comment or requesting information.
We use your personal information to:
- Operate and maintain the websites
- Customise the websites for you
- Send you information e.g. via newsletters
- Send you administrative communications
- Respond to your enquiries
- Process funding applications
- Analyse our social marketing/education campaigns
When do we disclose private data?
We use private data for WSNZ use only. We do not share your personally identifiable information with anyone. We may share it when we are authorised to do so by yourself or as required by law.
We use tracking tools to look at patterns of website and social media visits. These tools analyse aggregated data. No personal identifiable data is used by these tools. Anonymised data may be disclosed by us to third parties, such as an advertising company. The tools we use are Google Analytics.

You can contact WSNZ on phone 04 801 9600 to request what information we may hold on you, and ask to change or delete it.
You can delete cookies by clearing your browser history or prevent them by adjusting the settings in your browser.
