Sport is engrained in our Kiwi culture but societal changes and global trends towards inactivity are impacting this. Sport New Zealand is the guardian of New Zealand's world-leading sporting system, from grassroots through to elite sport. While Water Safety New Zealand is an incorporated society, Sport New Zealand is the 'government home' for the water safety sector and is therefore the lead agency which works with Water Safety New Zealand on the 2020 sector strategy.
The Statutory grantmaker, Lottery Grants Board distributes the profits made from New Zealand state lotteries, such as Lotto and Instant Kiwi, for the benefit of New Zealand communities. Through Sport New Zealand, Water Safety New Zealand receives funding from Lottery Grants Board for its operating budget and community investment programme.
ACC helps prevent injuries and get New Zealanders and visitors back to everyday life if they've had an accident. Water Safety New Zealand and ACC work together to help prevent drowning incidents with ACC providing operating and campaign funds for priority audiences including young males 15 - 34 years and Māori.
The Warehouse works with community organisations that support families and young people in education, wellbeing and youth employment. Water Skills For Life, is New Zealand's aquatic education programme rolling out across schools which teaches children vital water safety skills and competencies. The Warehouse is proudly supporting Water Skills For Life with much needed funding and promotion to ensure every child has the opportunity to learn water safety.

Bay Trust funds community groups working towards making the Bay of Plenty the 'greatest place to be'. Bay Trust is working with Water Safety New Zealand on developing a Bay of Plenty regional water safety strategy with the aim of reducing drowning deaths and injuries in the region and building a culture of safe enjoyment around water.
The New Zealand Search and Rescue (NZSAR) Council provides high level strategic governance to all search and rescue agencies in New Zealand. WSNZ and NZSAR are working together to bring down New Zealand's high drowning rate. In particular, NZSAR contribute funds to WSNZ's Swim Reaper campaign geo-targeting social media messages to young males at the time they may make the wrong decision around water.
